| One Friday in November, I began a journey
| |
| | seeing the expressed pain and anguish was
|
| from New Jersey to downtown New York City
| |
| | something else. In my past communication
|
| to visit old work friends. It was my
| |
| | with commuters, yes, we would talk, but
|
| first visit since the tragic September
| |
| | often to simply kill time. Now it was
|
| 11th attack. Although I've traveled this
| |
| | evident we were part of the same
|
| same route--the commuter train to the

| | "family".Once he found out I was a

|
| were now, of course, changes in the
| |
| | keyboard player, the tone took a
|
| environment when I got to Hoboken. For one
| |
| | tremendous upward shift. It was amazing
|
| thing, it was the first time I had to ask
| |
| | how that shift even allowed us to get
|
| a fellow commuter how I would get
| |
| | into specifics. We were now glowfully
|
| downtown from the Hoboken train station,
| |
| | discussing drum techniques such as Steve
|
| as in the past, I always took the path
| |
| | Gadd's work on "Aja", and Jeff Porcaro's
|
| train to the WTC. I began to ask a
| |
| | hi-hat sound and groove from "Rosanna". I
|
| commuter, and that's when I noticed the
| |
| | began to explain some hand technique
|
| next big change: A great sense of
| |
| | including the moeller stroke. We started
|
| relatedness and unity amongst commuters.
| |
| | to laugh at the similarity, joy and
|
| Not that we were void of any sense of
| |
| | appreciation we had! One can now sense
|
| that in the past, but now we were faced
| |
| | that we had come to relate to one another
|
| with a massive perspective shift: As a
| |
| | on two levels. No experience can ever
|
| whole, we've experienced a never-expected
| |
| | erase our September 11th tragedy.
|
| nightmare to our previously-thought
| |
| | However, the friendly environment change
|
| "invincible" New York City. The first
| |
| | I witnessed between NYC commuters now was
|
| gentleman I spoke to was extremely
| |
| | actually heartening. And, in the case of
|
| helpful and more than willing to offer
| |
| | the conversation I had with this second
|
| his help on how I would now get downtown.
| |
| | gentleman, drums were a vehicle that
|
| His knowledge and love for the city was
| |
| | significantly uplifted the mood of our
|
| evident. Then another gentleman came up to
| |
| | conversation -- which, especially for
|
| me and began speaking. This second
| |
| | this gentleman -- brought him a temporary
|
| conversation I had really reinforced my
| |
| | escape from his painful, visual
|
| conviction of the universality and
| |
| | memories.We know how widespread the
|
| positivity of drumming. Make no mistake:
| |
| | positive effect of drums is. Is it any
|
| The conversation began in a dark tone, as
| |
| | coincidence that drums are now being
